with eddie cs previous creation for lets get lost barely out of the barrel of the the labels finely engineered hand cannon we are bombarded with two more selections from the canadian turned berliners seemingly limitless arsenal of secret weapons. masterful re-arrangement as ever ever from the now seasoned producer. side a yields wonderfully quirky balearic vibes while on the flip a horn and string led disco barn stormer reminiscent of a rub-n-tug unknown gem provides what is, for us at least, the highlight of the ep. two very different tracks and a great package all round.

for a short period in 1981 and with brand-new equipment such as roland 808, sh 101, gr 500, we made some 8-track just for fun jam tapes. mainly just to experiment for our own pleasure. from those sessions, only white horse made it to a final treatment. the rest of the material was left behind, as our record company at the time found it too different. after white horse being a track indeed defining our sound, we thought it would be interesting to dig out left-overs to fulfill a documentation of that period - crucial for us at the time. we were still innocent newcomers, without actually knowing to be creating a new sound! recently, that left-over material was transferred from analogue to digital and, to stay as true as possible to original intentions, we only added vocals, bass and drumbeats ahead of a final mix. we hope that you will enjoy listening to it. good vibes from laid back copenhagen 2012.

vessel returns to left_blank with 3 tracks of mind bending house & techno for the labels 5th release. after inaugurating the label almost a year ago with his critically acclaimed nylon sunset ep, vessel aka sebastian gainsborough went on to release a sold out split cassette with fellow left_blanker el kid, and a stunning digital only set for a future without. as a result of this the all conquering tri angle records snapped him up in early 2012 to release his debut album. this eps title track standard spans the length of the a-side: 5 minutes of low-slung, smacked out death disco, coming over like john carpenter meets newworldaquarium, pure valium vibes. merge on the b-side is positively sprightly in comparison, all rattling and metallic before a drop at the halfway point brings a welcome dose of detroit influenced machine funk. zero closes the ep in abstraction, whirring and stumbling along while showcasing sebs intricate sound design, a teasing glimpse at what is in store for his album later in the year.

massive stuff! early praise and support from: thomas schumacher, martin landsky, john tejada, jimpster, ben watt, anthony collins, varoslav and dave aju among others. deep, dank and dusty is the name of the game for bad animals second vinyl release. san franciscos safeword (marc smith and clint stewart) have been on a tear since forming last year in san francisco. right off the bat they ve hit a stride with releases on fine labels such as dessous, paso music and are currently remixing for the mighty mobilee. this, their debut ep on bad animal titled >west portal< weaves down more soulful yet dark avenues. deep vibes, smooth synths and silky vocals are perfectly accompanied by heavy, churning rhythms and tasteful reflections of acid house. the legendary smash tv lend their expertise to round off the ep with an acid house monster of a party jam. while still retaining the dusty soul of the original material, the berlin-based duo has brought their >midas touch< to bad animal with this golden rework.

die letzte fsoj vol. 11 ist schon fünf jahre her, die erste kam 1995 raus. ich habe das gefühl die zeit dreht zurück. ein bischen erinnern mich die tracks - vor allem die langsamen stücke, wie so mancher sound - an die ersten >future sounds of jazz< compilations. ich kann sagen, ich hatte eine gewisse leerstelle von 2007 bis ende 2010, sah weder die notwendigkeit, noch hatte ich lust empfunden, eine neue fsoj zu machen. es gab seit 2007 schon den ein oder anderen tollen track, aber nicht genug, um gleich eine compilation daraus zu zimmern. zugegeben war ich, wie viele andere, mehr dem disco-, edit- und deep house-fieber verfallen. bin ich immer noch, aber die musik fusioniert wieder stärker mit den vibes, die ich für fsoj suchte.
es begann in 2010, festigte sich in 2011, ein déjà-vu ritt mich plötzlich, der viel beschworene zeitgeist wehte wieder. haufenweise gute tracks, interessante projekte, die von der Ästhetik, vom sound und feeling den frühen 90ern, oder meinem gutdünken ihre reminiszenzen aufwiesen. immerhin sind seit der vol. 1 schon zwei generationen nachgewachsen, sagt man doch, daß alle sieben jahre eine neue generation entsteht. ich denke, die jüngeren projekte (z.b.: lo tide aus australien, anchorsong und ragout delapin beides projekte aus japan, scrimshire, letherette, laszlo, sepalcure, eden) die hier vertreten sind, spiegeln das eindrücklich wieder.
